Refractory castables are classified by bonding system, working temperature, aggregate composition, and functional characteristics. Each type has exclusive application scenarios and performance strengths. The following are the most commonly used types in global industrial markets:

1. Cement-Bonded Refractory Castable

This is the most conventional and cost-effective refractory castable, using high-alumina cement as the main binder. It features fast curing speed, stable room-temperature strength, and convenient construction. With a working temperature ranging from 1000°C to 1400°C, it is widely used in medium and low-temperature thermal equipment. It is the preferred material for general industrial furnace linings, flue ducts, and boiler insulation layers.

2. High-Alumina Refractory Castable

Made of high-purity bauxite aggregates with high alumina content, high-alumina castable boasts high refractoriness, strong abrasion resistance, and excellent high-temperature structural stability. Its maximum working temperature can reach 1500°C–1600°C. It is ideal for medium and high-temperature industrial furnaces, including rotary kilns, heating furnaces, and ceramic kilns, and is one of the best-selling refractory castable types in international bulk procurement.

3. Low-Cement & Ultra-Low-Cement Refractory Castable

Developed to overcome the high-temperature weakness of traditional cement-bonded castables, low-cement and ultra-low-cement castables reduce cement content significantly and optimize particle gradation. They feature higher high-temperature strength, lower porosity, better slag resistance, and longer service life. Suitable for high-temperature and high-load working conditions, they are widely applied in steel industry furnaces, cement rotary kiln transition zones, and petrochemical thermal equipment.

4. Corundum Refractory Castable

With corundum as the main aggregate, this castable has ultra-high refractoriness (up to 1800°C), excellent corrosion resistance, and extreme abrasion resistance. It belongs to high-grade refractory castable materials, mainly used for ultra-high-temperature industrial equipment such as metallurgical furnaces, high-temperature reaction kettles, and glass melting furnaces.

5. Insulation Refractory Castable

Also known as lightweight refractory castable, it adopts lightweight porous aggregates, featuring low bulk density, low thermal conductivity, and outstanding heat preservation performance. Its mechanical strength is relatively lower than heavy-duty castables, so it is mostly used for thermal insulation layers of furnaces, kiln outer linings, and low-temperature flue systems instead of load-bearing working layers.

6. Acid & Alkali Resistant Refractory Castable

Specially formulated for harsh chemical erosion environments, acid-resistant castables resist acid gas and slag corrosion, while alkali-resistant castables effectively prevent alkali metal erosion in cement and chemical industries. These customized castables are essential for chemical furnaces, waste incinerators, and cement kiln linings.
